From A Distance

Do you remember that song that Bette Midler sang in the 90s, "From A Distance"?  It used to burn up the radio waves on all of the top 40 stations.  Now you can find it on any station named "Sunny". The premise of the song is awesome, but there's one line that I disagree with.  "From a distance, God is watching us".  My experience with the all powerful Creator of the universe is very different than that.

When I was a kid I would do almost anything without fear.  I rode bikes with no helmet, jumped on trampolines with no safety net (shocking) and many times I played outside for hours with no cell phone.  I was risky.  For some reason parents used to be a whole lot less averse to risk or just dumb.  Over the past 20 years safety has taken center stage in parenting.
