Give Your Gum Away

Posted on November 30, 2013

Have you ever wanted something but didn’t know how to ask for it? I discovered this dilemma while having a conversation on an airplane somewhere over the Midwest. I began to chat with a random guy in the seat beside me and felt like we were building a decent flight friendship when he pulled out a packet of Juicy-Fruit gum. Immediately my mouth began to water for the sugary goodness. I knew in my heart that he would offer me a piece so I began to set my mouth for the explosion of fruity flavor. He gingerly unwrapped his piece […]

Step away from my personal space sir!

Posted on October 28, 2013

I am a big fan of the police.  Especially if someone is trying to break into my house or steal from me.  The only caveat to this is when they are pulling me over for a traffic stop.  A few weeks ago an officer was riding my bumper and I turned into a grocery store.  It was my feeble attempt at acting like I was already pulling in to the store.  I wasn’t speeding and I’m still not quite sure why he pulled me over.  All I can tell you is he was INTENSE. He began yelling right when I […]

It’s All Eve’s Fault!

Posted on July 17, 2013

Have you ever thought about how monumentally dumb Eve was? (just keep reading) Seriously, we wouldn’t even be in any of this mess of sin and damnation if Eve could’ve just resisted the temptation of the slithering serpent. But nooooooooo she just had to take a big fat bite of the juicy red apple (or whatever kind of fruit it was). Then she has the audacity to go and find Adam, poor innocent Adam, (who was probably walking with God in the cool of the evening) and force this corruption on him. We all know how dumb men are. Women […]

Jesus, Fried Chicken And Madea…

Posted on June 24, 2013

13 years ago I had a pretty serious motorcycle wreck. I was leaving the University of Louisiana and a drunk driver plowed into my beautiful yellow Honda CBR 600. I didn’t have time to even think, just thud. I don’t remember much about the incident except for a state trooper asking me who the president was. Abe Lincoln was my answer. Obviously, I was seriously jacked up. I recovered after about three months of intense physical therapy but one thing lingered for a few more months: Vertigo. Have you ever experienced Vertigo? It’s one of the worst feelings on the […]

Meatloaf And The Mirror

Posted on June 24, 2013

Do you remember that Meatloaf tune where he growled about Objects In The Rear View Mirror? I don’t think I ever actually listened to the song, just him screaming the lyrics like a water buffalo with a severe case of strep throat. Well tonight I think I got the gist of the tune for the very first time. Through all of his guttural howling I was able to decipher a lyric for the first time in my 36 years; “…And if life is just a highway, then the soul is just a car…And objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer […]

Geysers, Dogs And Retro Journey Music

Posted on June 24, 2013

What do Geysers, Dogs, and the band Journey all have in common?  Dogs are the most faithful animals in the world, Old Faithful blows about every 90 minutes and Journey is still smashing the retro rock-&-roll super hit “Faithfully”.  I can hear the guitar riff now.  The one thing they all have in common is the word Faithful.  God likes that word too. I was laboriously plowing through 1 Chronicles the other day and right smack dab in the middle of all of the begets, bequeaths, and descendants in the miles of genealogical records of those books I found this […]
