From A Distance

Do you remember that song that Bette Midler sang in the 90s, “From A Distance”? It used to burn up the radio waves on all of the top 40 stations. Now you can find it on any station named “Sunny”.
The premise of the song is awesome, but there’s one line that I disagree with. “From a distance, God is watching us”. My experience with the all powerful Creator of the universe is very different than that. God has been so close to me, especially in times of pain, misunderstanding, hurt or disappointment. It’s in those times that I feel His presence the closest and strongest.
God told Joshua, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” God is not some distant, detached and disinterested deity. He is a very close presence in our lives. He is accessible. He has proximity to us. He’s close.
Trust Him today. You may not be able to see Him but never doubt that He’s there. Jesus is gently caring for you, interested in what you are going through and walking right beside you every step of the way.
